How did he ever believe that he could wrest Hougang from the incumbent?

The only reason a higher percentage of votes swung in his favour at the 2001 elections was mainly because the residents bit the upgrading carrot. Fortunately, people now wise-up to the unscrupulous use of taxpayer's cash for ONE PARTY's benefit.

you mean the 2 PAP folks, Eric loh and Sitoh? they are not MP, true, but if I not wrong, they are apoointed as town mayor of these 2 wards, hence the MTP sessions. (disclaimer, I might be wrong, this is just based on memory recollection, so someone please help me confirm this, thanks)

With so many barriers of entry and so many obstacles created, MM Lee is indeed correct to say that any alternative party that can beat these odds will eventually displace the Ruling Party.

Let them continue to place their own party members as mayors and town council advisors in the opposition wards. It will continue to draw the irk of the residents and firmly entrench their loyalty to the alternatives.

Ruling Party tactics have already been exposed as hollow and mercenary so either they change or they lose more votes, possibly even a GRC at the next election.

I think Eric Low and Sito better quit, dont waste time becouse from past experience, Mah Bow Tan, Ng Pock too, Heng Chee How, Andy Gan all tried 2 times yet they still lost to Chiam See Tong, so no point for Sito or Eric to continue unless PAP put them to a safe GRC under the heavyweight of a minister such as Tanjong Pagar or Marine Parade which is 100% win

That explain for SDP and CSJ moving from Jurong (2001) to Sembawang (2006).

In 2001, SDP took 20.25% of the votes cast in Jurong GRC, and in 2006 it improved its performance with 23.3% votes cast for the Sembawang GRC.

Perhaps, Eric Low and Sitoh should appeal to the POWER OF ONE to allow them to move on, if they are highly valued by their Party.

Unfortunately, it will seem to be that these two candidates are NOT Ministerial material, and the POWER OF ONE is in NO HURRY to move them from these two constituencies.

They are mere cannon fodder, or to be used as bait to trap the two incumber from the Alternative Parties.

In anycase, CST will not last another two Election in Potong Pasir, and Sitoh may still have a chance within the next ten years - IF CST do not groom someone to take over Potong Pasir.

The Alternative Parties should start looking into Tanjong Pagar GRC, as LKY cannot possibly last another one or two more Election Campaign.
